Curriculum
Highland Grove has developed a reputation as a centre which offers children a varied and extensive curriculum. The program includes opportunities to develop each child's independence, creativity and knowledge. At HGP the preschoolers have access to wonderful art and craft experiences, an extensive music program, early literacy and numeracy experiences, computer activities, the opportunity to explore our natural environment and to learn about various languages and cultures.
      The content of Highland Grove's curriculum is a result of observations made by HGP's experienced educators and regular input
from centre families. The teachers analyse and reflect on each child's learning and plan activities to support and develop each child's strengths and interests, ensuring that learning is ongoing.
      From January 2012 the Early Years Learning Framework became mandatory for all early childhood settings. Highland Grove uses the framework to work in partnership with families to provide play-based learning, with a focus on communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy) and social and emotional development.
      Highland Grove has excellent relationships with our local schools. Our School Transition
program includes consultation between our early childhood teacher and the infant teachers, visits to the schools with photographic documentation and an annual parent "School Transition" evening with an experienced guest speaker.
      Appealing Developmental Portfolios are kept annually on each child. These are a collection of photos, art work, written observations and twice yearly Developmental summaries written by our teachers. These give families a description of their child's learning in relation to the five learning outcomes as set out in the Early Years Learning Framework. The Portfolios are a gift to our families at the year's end.
