We intentionally
engage the children in stimulating experiences, allowing them to explore, investigate, learn
and create.
The focus is on enjoying the planned learning experiences, nurturing and building on the children's confidence and independence.
The Moonbeam Room has a productive, social atmosphere with 4 to 5 year olds actively constructing, creating, listening and learning.
About Our Rooms
At Highland Grove children are grouped according to when they are expected to start school. Therefore the Moonbeam Room has children attending school the following year (although of course if families are unsure about their child's readiness for school they can return to this room the following year.)
The Starlight Room is the playroom for the
younger group of children. These children will be returning to HGP for at least one other year.
Through the approximate 12 month age range in each room, the children benefit by age specific activities and expectations. The warm and friendly interactions between the children and their teachers are always appropriate to that child's age and development.
The Starlight Room
There are 20 children attending each day in this north facing room with high ceilings and large glass waving windows. The Starlight Room also has a window facing onto the nappy changing area. (Just in case!)
This small number of children enjoying the preschool program, alongside 3 or 4 educators each day, ensures an ambience of warmth and intimacy. The daily routine in the Starlight Room revolves around indoor and outdoor free play times, combined with teacher directed group
experiences. The focus for this 3 to 4 year age group is on enjoying the planned learning experiences, nurturing and building on the children's confidence and independence.
The Starlight Room educators support the children's social development. They build individual relationships with each child and encourage friendships. Social skills such as sharing, turn taking and an awareness of empathy for others are encouraged.
The Moonbeam Room
Our Moonbeam Room is a large airy room with a delightful 'Rainbow Room' attached through clear glass doors. The room has a productive, social atmosphere with 4 to 5 year olds actively constructing, creating, listening and learning.
The 'Moonbeam' day includes a combination of free play sessions, both indoors and outdoors and several structured group times. In this friendly and supportive setting the children develop their concentration and listening abilities, group work skills and a keen interest in learning. The Moonbeam teachers use the
Rainbow Room daily to participate with smaller groups of children in educational games, stories and activities. These Group times, with less children in each group, enable the educators to plan for each child's learning and remain up to date in their knowledge of each child's interests and development.
The year before school is a wonderful time to explore numbers, shapes and the sounds in words. The Moonbeam Room teachers encourage early literacy, numeracy and skills in preparation for a smooth transition to school.
